It’s the end of April, which means our field season (the time we are actively out collecting data) is officially over! Since the start of the field season in January, we sampled 61 coyotes (both adults and pups). Sampling them includes performing health checks as well as taking genetic and disease samples. Out of these 61 coyotes, 21 adult coyotes were fit with GPS collars. All coyotes that are fit with GPS collars must weigh over a certain amount to ensure their safety and comfort.
While this field season was incredibly fun, it also could be exhausting at times. Sometimes, we were only getting only 4 hours of sleep multiple days in a row because of early-morning den checks combined with 2AM captures. However, we will all miss our 3AM gas station stops, hotel sleepovers, and our early morning Chick-fil-A breakfast runs.
